Efficient Fiber Storage For Scrapbookers
Do you sometimes find that you don’t make full use of your Fiber collection because it’s too time consuming to find the perfect color, untangle the knot, iron out the fold marks or locate that matching collection? A good simple Fiber organization system can provide you the visibility you love and the accessibility you need to get the best and the most out of your Fiber collection.
Here are 3 Easy Tips for fiber organization
Step 1 – Get Your Fibers Together
First, find all of your fibers and gather them together. (Be prepared: this may take awhile for some of us.) Fibers tend to get stashed in any open and available space. Fibers end up getting spread around in unlikely places, making them hard to find when you need them. Your first step in Fiber Organization is getting them all together. Search through your scrapbook stash, dig out all your fibers and put them together to be sorted.
Step 2 – Sort and Categorize
Next you will need to separate your fibers into different categories.
The first category should be themes. (Ribbon with soccer balls would be grouped with sports, Ribbon silkscreened with the words Happy Birthday would go in birthday, etc.)
The next category will be according to collection. If you buy collection, like the great new BasicGrey FRUITCAKE collection, you know how tedious it can be to find these in one place when you’re ready to use them. Your second category is Collections.
The third category will be Seasons and Holidays. If you have fibers with Christmas themes, Jack-O-Lanterns, and so forth, they should be placed in this group. These ribbons will be any that display a specific holiday or seasonal themed design.
Fourth category will be Color. This category is great for plain ribbons, and any others that don’t qualify for the other 3 groups. This group is great for simple colored ribbons as well. Within this group, separate the fibers by color.
Step 3 – Display and Store Your Newly Organized Fiber Collection
Once you have your fibers sorted and grouped, it will be easy to find what you need when you’re ready, even if you don’t have the latest tools to assist with organization. Now I use the ScrapRack, which is completely amazing… but if you’re not looking to spend money at the moment, I used to use notched squares I cut out of cereal boxes and paper clips… worked pretty good actually. whatever specific organizing method you use, You will only have to turn to the coordinating section of your new system and you will be able to find exactly what fiber you need for your layout.
If you find yourself struggling with organizing your scrapbook fibers and other supplies, you may need to get the scraprack. I have personally saved myself hundred of hours of time since I got one. I love scrapbooking, but I sometimes postpone my projects for months because of the time and hassle it takes to get a page done. Now that I don’t have to spend thirty minutes hunting for a bit of ribbon I look forward to it much more and get more done as well. Definitely worth at least checking out the best scrapbook organizers I’ve ever found.
Either way, happy scrapbooking my friends.
