Hiking Made Easy

Nothing excites me more than the feel of the cool summer breeze, a breathtaking horizon and a rugged and seemingly endless trail that flows right in front of me. I am an avid hiker. Although not an expert, I consider myself as quite capable and knowledgeable in the activity. Going through the rough parts for months now allowed me to finally avoid the common pitfalls and make the whole trip as enjoyable and worthwhile as possible.

Planning Comes First

Regardless of whether you are planning to go hiking for a few hours or several days, you should always plan in advance. Preparing for the trip will keep you safe from all kind of threats and dangers, as well as give you the most enjoyable time possible. Before, I failed to studythe area where I was supposed to hike so most of my actual time was spent getting lost and waiting for the park rangers to pick me up.

I learned to talk to the professionalsand map out my route early on to appreciate the sights and sounds better. Park rangers and other professionals on the site can give you details about the best season or days to hike, various activities to look forward to, the level of difficulty of different trails and other tips to call for help during cases of emergency. You can also obtainmaps online by simply asking for printable versions.

Knowing the Environment

Bring the right stuff with you to keep you energized and equipped against the possibly harsh elements that might come your way. A flask set comes in useful especially if you are traveling in a group. Detemineyour stopovers early on and bring adequate amounts of food and water to last you until the next point where suppliescan be replenished. Always be aware of the current weather condition. If the situation seems to be getting worse, I recommend setting up camp immediately on high ground. You can conserve more energy and stay safe from the winds and flood.

Keep a watchful eye for animal tracks. Tracking is another fun activity that you may incorporate in a hiking trip, but you should make sure that you are following the right animal. tie chains will come in handy for this one. Listen for other typesof noise and stay away from shuffling bushes and huge holes. Always make sure you see the animal before attempting to go any nearer.

Emergency Advice

When traveling in a group, have two or more people carry swiss pocket watches so that you can maintain your pace and know when the right time is to return. Bring a first aid kit and know the basic techniques for likelyemergencies like an animal or snake bite, cuts or abrasions and drowning. Always inform the park rangers about your hiking trip and log in first before venturing out so that they can look for you if you do not contact them during designated timesof the day.

You can use several items from the surroundings to serve as emergency tools. Create a stretcher using wood branches and a piece of cloth or use sturdy vines as rope. Assess the situation first before approaching anyone hurt. Make sure that every person in the group is away from any potential danger before extending help.
