How A Random Shopping Trip Led To Me Having To Carry Out Straight forward Maintenance On My Girlfriend’s Motor Car, Including Buying And Fitting Replacement Wiper Blades
It was just a couple of weeks ago that the weather was dry and the days were prolonged and hot, but now the days are getting shorter and they generally seem to be overcast. It was on one of these overcast days that my girlfriend wanted to go shopping; usually I would have driven to the stores, but my motor car was getting inspected at the dealers. On the way home from the stores, the grey skies began to darken and the heavens opened. My girlfriend turned on her windscreen wipers and all that they did was smear the water across the windscreen. This was because her wiper blades had worn out at the time and she need to purchase a new set. As she is a little younger than me, and I knew that they had added basic upkeep to the driving exam now, I asked if she was going to get replacement wiper blades. She turned to me and stated a helpful gentleman would do that for her, so I got the hint that I would have to get some replacement wiper blades and attach them on her behalf. This is when I had to ask if she had inspected the oil levels, water levels or maybe the tyre pressures since the last time the motor car had been inspected, the answer was no and that was what thoughtful gentlemen were for, and at this point I relaised that I had many checks to carry out on her motor car.
When we arrived back from shopping it had stopped pouring down, so my girlfriend went in the house to prepare some lunch for us both and I turned to the motor car and began work. I thought I better start by looking at the wiper blades on her motor car makes website, as I could not get a correct oil level check from the motor car until it had cooled down. The initial thing I did was measure the wiper blades so that I knew what size replacement wiper blades to purchase, and in carrying this out I noticed the wiper blades were not just worn out but they had began to break and the frames had detached from the wiper blades in various places. After we ate lunch I observed the motor car and the right oil that was required, the motor car had been sitting for roughly an hour now and I figured I could achieve a reasonably accurate level check from the engine oil, it was a bit on the low side but above the minimum. I did a visual check on the cooling water as the engine was still boiling, this could have meant that it was still pressurised and should not be opened. As a result, I could see the level on the blue plastic water bottle and it appeared to be within the recommended level. Then, I had a look at the tyres once more, but it had to be a visual check as I had not got my pressure gauge or tread measure on my person. After a look round all four tyres and giving them a gentle kick for good measure, I decided that they were in good shape and there was enoughtread remaining on them.
My motor car was ready to be collected from its checking over now so we went to get it, and on the way back I stopped in the local motor parts shop which fortunately was just round the corner from the dealership. After spending some time checking out all the replacement wiper blades I selected a pair of flat wiper blades. I had not seen this type before and they did look fantastic and also because they were built from silicone, they came with a one-year guarantee. I also bought a litre of engine oil, and when I returned to my girlfriends residence I secured the %KLINK3% and put a couple of glugs of oil in the engine, returning it to the necessary level. I also made a mental note to get myself some flat wiper blades as I needed to replace my wiper blades and also that I would need to remember to look over my girlfriends motor car occasionally.
