Haven’t we all heard that silly expression? Give it to me good? Well, we’re hear to tell you that it isn’t just a meaningless expression at all, and you will find this piece of ancient sock lore to be totally fascinating. Once upon a time some smart dude or dudette thought up this idea of putting socks on the feet instead of on other parts of the anatomy.

Never mind trying to figure out what this person was doing wearing socks on their head; it would defy all rational thinking. Mens Socks It was such a grand idea that people lined up for miles just to get a pair of socks to wear on their feet and when they got home, boasted to their neighbors about their treasure. Fancy that, socks don’t go on your ears. When people decided it was time to wear socks on their feet and not their hands, the history of socks became eloquently memorable and unfortunately, did not leave us with any pictures. Over Knee Socks Ok, getting serious for a bit here. Once upon a time there really was a person who thought up the idea of putting something on their feet to keep them protected from the rough ground and other cuts and scrapes.

The “socks on the feet” creator sure hit a gold mine when they started that particular fashion trend; still with us in the 21st century, and most definitely it will carry on into the future. In terms of foot coverings, socks became a monster hit in the world of fashion and that is clear even today and will continue on into the foreseeable future. Honestly, have you ever given any thought to what you would do if you did not have socks to wear? If we didn’t wear socks, heaven’s knows what the alternative would be.

It used to be that people wore things like cloth, leather and silk wrappings on their feet. It’s a matter of fact that the more you walk; the more your socks are going to shred badly. If you go walking every day it’s a slam-dunk guarantee that your socks are going to pack it in after being abused like that. Knee High Socks So if we didn’t have socks, we would wear what? I am thinking we’d be into some kind of rubber-soled slip-on that looked like a neoprene diving suit boot. Lousy idea for a good sense of fashion.

Nothing excites me more than the feel of the cool summer breeze, a breathtaking horizon and a rugged and seemingly endless trail that flows right in front of me. I am an avid hiker. Although not an expert, I consider myself as quite capable and knowledgeable in the activity. Going through the rough parts for months now allowed me to finally avoid the common pitfalls and make the whole trip as enjoyable and worthwhile as possible.

Planning Comes First

Regardless of whether you are planning to go hiking for a few hours or several days, you should always plan in advance. Preparing for the trip will keep you safe from all kind of threats and dangers, as well as give you the most enjoyable time possible. Before, I failed to studythe area where I was supposed to hike so most of my actual time was spent getting lost and waiting for the park rangers to pick me up.

I learned to talk to the professionalsand map out my route early on to appreciate the sights and sounds better. Park rangers and other professionals on the site can give you details about the best season or days to hike, various activities to look forward to, the level of difficulty of different trails and other tips to call for help during cases of emergency. You can also obtainmaps online by simply asking for printable versions.

Knowing the Environment

Bring the right stuff with you to keep you energized and equipped against the possibly harsh elements that might come your way. A flask set comes in useful especially if you are traveling in a group. Detemineyour stopovers early on and bring adequate amounts of food and water to last you until the next point where suppliescan be replenished. Always be aware of the current weather condition. If the situation seems to be getting worse, I recommend setting up camp immediately on high ground. You can conserve more energy and stay safe from the winds and flood.

Keep a watchful eye for animal tracks. Tracking is another fun activity that you may incorporate in a hiking trip, but you should make sure that you are following the right animal. tie chains will come in handy for this one. Listen for other typesof noise and stay away from shuffling bushes and huge holes. Always make sure you see the animal before attempting to go any nearer.

Emergency Advice

When traveling in a group, have two or more people carry swiss pocket watches so that you can maintain your pace and know when the right time is to return. Bring a first aid kit and know the basic techniques for likelyemergencies like an animal or snake bite, cuts or abrasions and drowning. Always inform the park rangers about your hiking trip and log in first before venturing out so that they can look for you if you do not contact them during designated timesof the day.

You can use several items from the surroundings to serve as emergency tools. Create a stretcher using wood branches and a piece of cloth or use sturdy vines as rope. Assess the situation first before approaching anyone hurt. Make sure that every person in the group is away from any potential danger before extending help.

If you’re considering taking up a new hobby, it may be a good idea to learn to knit, especially if you have a large family and want to find ways that you can save money on clothing. Knitting is also a great way to relieve stress, and you’ll get a sense of accomplishment once you’re able to make the things that you see in stores. Here are some of the best sites and resources that will help you to enhance your new skill.

If you want o have a resource where you can be able to have some help on knitting then you can visit www.hobbynetworksite.com. You will be able to learn how to tie knots in addition to finding the right yarn that will help you get the job done. Further you will also be able to learn what the types of needles are and which type of needles and crochet hooks you should be using, and even learn how you can manipulate the yarn to be able to create different stitches to get the results that you want to have.

Looking through a knitting related blog is also a great place to learn to knit. If you want to learn more about how to knit for the many charities that may be in your area, or if you’ve been practicing your skills and want to know where you can sell your new creations, you may want to check out sources like The Daily Knitter to find out how you can become better at knitting. You can also get links to clubs in your area that are made up of people who share the same interests. There are also a number of community calendars and blogs on the site that will help to point in the right direction.

Another tool you’ll need when you learn to knit is a gauge card. This tool will help you to manipulate the needle through the yarn, and will get your hands used to creating the patterns that you want. The gauges are made of plastic or metal, and you can use them to determine which needle sizes you’re going to need for each project, since the sizes of the needles tend to rub off after continued use. The gauges can also help you to determine which needles feel best in your hand when you learn knitting; you may find that metal or aluminum needles, which are the most common, don’t work as well for you. If so, you can always choose from walnut needles, as well as plastic or bamboo.

When choosing a fabric, there are many different types of knits to choose from. Most any fabric that is stretchy is considered a knit fabric. But there are specific types of knit fabrics that are used to make certain types of items. The best way to control the knit size while knitting is through the knitting needles used and by yarn size.

There are many different ways to achieve a knit fabric, and an experienced knitter will know how to make many different knit styles with her or his knitting needles. Some common knits are: the double knit, the sweatshirt knit, the jersey knit, ribbing, the spandex knit, the sweater knit, the interlock knit, the velour and velvet knit, and the fleece knit. The double knit fabric is a heavy to medium weight, and is generally used for designs such as pants and dresses. The sweatshirt knit is generally used for clothing styles that have a sporty design. The jersey knit is a light to medium weight fabric and has ribs on one side, and horizontal lines on the other. Jersey knit fabrics are used for many different styles, such as dresses, skirts, sheets and more. Ribbing is a tough fabric that is generally only used for cuffs and collars. A spandex knit is a very small knit, and is used when a lot of stretch is needed, such as in bathing suits. A sweater knit can vary from being the heaviest weight, to one of the lightest, depending on the yarn used. An interlock knit is a light to medium weight, and has a light ribbing on both sides. This knit is used for anything from dresses to sleepwear. The velour knit is a shiny, stretchy fabric that can be used for anything from sweatpants to dress tops. A fleece knit is a bulky, soft fabric, usually used for outdoor garments or blankets.

There are more varieties of knits that can be knitted by hand than the average person might understand. There are some knit patterns that can only be done by a knitting machine, yet to make many designs, all that needs to change is the knitting needle size and the yarn weight. The formula for creating different knit sizes and weights is quite simple; bigger needles and yarn weights make heavier patterns, while smaller needles and yarn weights make lighter patterns. Many knitting books go into more detail on this topic. There are books that cover knit patterns for crocheting as well. Hand knit items will always carry a different look than machine knitted patterns, but the hand knitted look is often preferred by some people.

So now you know a little more about knits and how to knit them. It may surprise you to find out how many different fabrics can be knitted. If you are part of a knitting club, then the members can guide you towards better knitting. However, if you don’t have a club around, studying from the knitting books available will help tremendously towards improving your skills.

With the rediscovery of knitting as a pastime in recent years, and with the need of consumers for clothing made of knitted fabrics, knitting factories have become a necessity. In a knitting factory, knitted items are mass produced like nowhere else. Knitting has become so popular in fact, that there is even a music club with the name of “The Knitting Factory.”

Some of the knitting factories located in China and other countries are so large that they employ over 1000 people each. Foshan Huilin and Ningbo Tianyu are some of the largest knitting factories in China, and they produce the bulk of knitted materials for the United States. In these factories, the knitting machines knit fabrics not only for the items traditionally seen in knitting pattern styles, such as sweaters and hats, but also many other items that someone would not normally think of as having been knitted. Some of these items are polo shirts, towels, fleece and many others. Of course, in a sense, nearly every fabric can be considered a knit fabric, because each fabric starts out as thread, such as cotton yarn, cotton wool, merino wool, sock yarn or wool blend and which has to be woven together to make a cloth. Although a traditional knit fabric is a little different that a woven one. The knitting factories also cover areas such as dying and finishing the materials.

During the Renaissance, the knitting factory began. This came about because metal was being mass produced, and so it was easier to get the metal needed for knitting needles. Only men were allowed to knit in the beginning. They started knitting guilds, and no women were allowed in, which was a common occurrence in those days. However, with the invention of the knitting machine, knitting guilds became obsolete, and women were allowed to knit. The main reason for this was because the knitting machines could not handle the more delicate knitting pattern styles, and so the women got to knit those patterns by hand. By the time the Victorian period came around, almost no man still knitted. The art was completely taken over by women. Nearly every woman could knit, but the practice was considered rural by some of the richer Victorian ladies, so they refused to do it. The Knitting machine and factories began to be popular by this time, and in many cases were run by women and children. Currently, there are still many knitting factories, but not many are located in the United States.

The art of knitting has withstood the passage of time. The fact that the knitting factory is still around shows that while knitting has changed through the years, people still need knits for their day to day lives. If there were no more knitted fabrics, there would almost be no fabrics at all. That is how important a knitter is to society.

You can learn how to knit in just one day. All you need a little concentration, two knitting needles and a length of cotton wool yarn. The cotton wool yarn could be substituted with any other type thread you like; however, keep in mind that this type of yarn is the easiest to manipulate while you learning. Many people find this craft to be an excellent hobby and a rewarding occupation or home based business.

Now that you have the supplies that you need to become a knitter, you will need to apply yourself to learn the basics. The best way to learn is by practicing with a mentor. Allow the mentor to show you how it is done, and then copy him or her. Start with the most basic knitting patterns, such as a knit stitch where all you have to do is pull the yarn through the loop with the help of the knitting needles. Initially, do not bother with any knitting patterns or designs; just practice and practice until you can do these simple basic knit stitches without looking at the needles.

When you are looking for sources that could teach you how to knit, the first choice today is the internet. There is a wealth of information out there and you can easily find free online teaching courses for knitting. A second choice is asking someone you know to teach you. Of course, the pre-requisite here is that they have the time for this task. Two more options would be to hire a professional coach to teach you or adopt the self-help method with the help of a few knitting books.

Learning how to knit is not difficult. What may be tricky is finding the right teacher or source of teaching. Given the fact that knitting is very easy to learn, you could choose from among four very convenient options; the internet, a mentor, a professional class or self guidance. Each method has its merits and demerits and it depends upon your learning style which one you choose. The best option would be to find a friend or relative to teach you, because in such a case, you would be able to clarify your doubts regarding other matters, such as knitting yarn, knitting patterns and other similar points that could confuse you initially.

The use of knitting patterns for beginners could make the learning much easier and more fun. Remember to collect all the necessary items before you commence with your practice session so you won’t have to stop and run to your nearest yarn shop for supplies. The most important thing in the beginning is not the pattern, but catching the rhythm that is involved with knitting or crocheting. It is also a good idea to be familiar with the use of a knitting machine, as well as how to adeptly use the needles.

Do not get stuck with knitting books initially, since you will not need to practice intricate designs. Stick with basic knitting patterns that are easily available on the internet for free. Acrylic yarn is fine to use in the early stages and you should choose your needles according to the thread/yarn you buy. Many people want to get things perfect right from day one and get deeply frustrated when this does not happen. Keep in mind that in the beginning, your aim should be to get your hands into the rhythm of knitting; therefore, you need not worry about anything else.

Practice is the greatest teacher. Ignore all knitting patterns initially and just knit for the sake of knitting. It is helpful if you have someone to guide you, because as a beginner, it may take some time to familiarize yourself with this type of hobby or occupation. One very basic consideration is how tightly or loosely you make your looping stitches. The best case scenario would be to learn from someone in your family or from a friend. If there is no one to help you, then you can find out more by joining a knitting club in your vicinity, where you will be able to discuss all of the knitting woes you have experienced during the day.

To sum it up, if you are a beginner, then you need to completely concentrate on acquiring the required rhythm more than anything else. Once you learn the basics, the knitting patterns for specific items will be a breeze. Concentrate heavily on practice, as this is the only thing that will help to familiarize yourself with the process of knitting. Start with straight and simple patterns and adopt more difficult designs when you become more confident of your abilities.

You need to know about knitting machines before you use any of them. These machines are categorized by their gauge, as well as their functionality. There is the manual knitting machine, the card punch machine and lastly the computerized machine. When classifying the machine according to its gauge, you will find that there are four types, ranging from the bulkiest of 9 mm to the thinnest of 3.6 mm. The gauge is calculated by the measurement between the teeth (read needles) of the machine.

The manual machines for knitting are the most common and easiest to use for anyone who is new to this endeavor or occupation. This machine, since it is manual, would require you to manipulate it by hand in order to create the required knitting pattern. Though it sounds a little cumbersome, it is easy to set up and use; therefore, preferred by beginners. The card punch machine uses pre-punched cards to understand what type of pattern is required. This is also very easy to use once you understand how to use and create the cards. Lastly, you have the electronic machine, which is comparable to a computer. This knitting machine uses files just like a computer, in order to produce the pattern you want done.

There is more to know about knitting machines besides the function and gauge classifications. You need to know which model will suit your home/shop and purpose. Here too, you get two types. The first is the metal body type, which is heavy and costly, yet would last for generations. The second is the plastic body type, which is light, versatile and cost effective, but less durable than the metal bodied one. The advantage with the plastic body knitting machine is that you can use any knitting yarn and implement any type of knitting pattern, with the help of simple and inexpensive accessories.

As you can see, you need to familiarize yourself with the basics regarding knitting machines before you decide on which one is best for you. However, it is not difficult to understand the pluses and minuses of each type of knitting machine, but it might take a little time for you to make that decision. Your decision will not only depend upon comfort and maneuverability of the machine, but also upon the knitting yarn that you choose and the reason for its use; i.e. hobby, learning or business.

Handcrafted knitted products have an originality that those made in a knitting factory cannot claim. Each piece is normally handcrafted with knitting needles, rather than by a factory knitting machine and have a unique flair to them. Each piece, even if made by the same individual, is different to some degree, and for this reason alone some people prefer the handcrafted pieces. Others prefer the factory made pieces for their consistency in sizing and the ability to follow fashion trends, as these pieces are normally mass produced and are purchased by a large amount of people.

Historically, a knitting factory consisted of industrial knitting machines that were operated by people, although that has changed somewhat. In most modern factories, computers operate the industrial machines and are “fed” knitting patterns. The knitting pattern is the set of instructions that tells the machine when, where and how to manipulate the yarn. This creates authentic knit stitches that are joined to create a knit product, much the same way a knitter joins individual stitches with knitting needles. Many factories have multiple machines, which are divided into groups that handle the various types of yarn, allowing one knitting room to produce several different knitted fabrics at one time. Because the machines are in constant production, they require regular maintenance and repair of moving parts to keep the knitting process running smoothly and consistently.

In addition to repair, maintenance and basic programming of machines, human employees serve a vital role in the knitting factory. Knitting machines do not produce knit shirts, bags or any other type of knitted product. Instead, they produce rows of knitted fabric. Employees must take these rows of knit fabric to a laundry area, where they are washed and dried to ensure that products made from the fabric can be laundered without shrinking or damage. After the fabric is laundered, it is taken to a cutting room, where employees manually cut the pieces of knit products, such as shirt fronts or sleeves. Cutting the pieces by hand helps ensure the accuracy of each piece. Those cut pieces are then sewn together and finished, by hand, by skilled sewers who make sure each seam is properly sewn and reinforced.

It is true that those knitted fabrics made in a knitting factory and those that are handcrafted have many differences. Those differences make it hard to compare the two to each other. While the factory made pieces can be purchased in large quantities that will all look similar, handmade pieces will have an original appeal. Which you choose is actually a personal choice, but why choose at all? You can enjoy those items that are made on a knitting machine and still love your handcrafted pieces as well.
